Contingency
Planning

While we are committed to bargaining in good faith, it makes good business sense to plan for any scenario.

While AdvanSix is committed to bargaining in good faith with your union representatives to secure a new labor agreement that is fair and competitive in the market and equitable for our hourly workforce, it is part of our process – and good business sense – to plan for any scenario, including a work stoppage, that may impact operations and our customer commitments. This is a normal part of our process before any negotiation.

  • If a contract settlement is not reached and there is a work stoppage, AdvanSix has been preparing to run the plant safely using salaried and contingent contract employees. Our contingency plan ensures the safe, stable and sustainable operations of the site throughout the negotiation process through our salaried workforce conducting important tasks that are normally performed by our hourly colleagues.

  • In the event of a work stoppage, all operations of the plant will initially be staffed by salaried workers from Chesterfield and other AdvanSix sites. These workers are either already trained on the systems they will be running or are currently undergoing refresher training. During any work stoppage, the plant’s more complex positions will always be staffed by these well-trained and experienced salaried workers.
  • All contingent workers supporting operations have undergone safety and plant fundamentals training and have an average of five years’ experience at our Chesterfield site and approximately 10 years of overall industry experience. All contingent welders will be certified and will work under an “R” stamp certification before working on high-pressure boilers and vessels.

  • The training and certifications for contingent workers are identical to what union employees are required to undergo before working in the same roles at the plant.

We remain committed to run the plant productively and safely at all times. We believe in our ability to operate with zero personal safety, process safety and environmental incidents. Every employee, including contingent contract employees, has the right to exercise the STOP process to call a safety stand down at any time, as we believe having the Courage to Act, Respond and Engage (CARE) is a core behavior to driving towards our zero incident vision.

Our goal is to achieve a contract that both our employees and the company can support. And, we’ll approach this the right way – professionally, and with transparency and integrity.
