The company and the union began negotiations on April 30, 2024.

Under U.S. labor law, the company and the unions are required to meet at reasonable times and places and to bargain in good faith over a new labor contract. Neither party is obligated to agree to any particular proposal.

The company has a lead negotiator along with other leaders from AdvanSix to represent the company during negotiations.

The union decides who will negotiate on their behalf.

We recognize it is common for many of our employees to have questions during this process and our hope is to provide timely, relevant information for you to be better informed before you vote. The website is available 24/7 for you and your families to review updates from negotiations, as well as facts about the process, common terms you may hear, and information on key topics.

First and foremost, the company wants to ensure safe operations, and it has invested – and will continue to invest – millions of dollars to do that. We are looking forward to working together with our unions to secure a new labor agreement that is fair and competitive in the market and equitable for our hourly workforce, while ensuring safe, stable and sustainable operations throughout the process.

As we have informed the union, the company will make a number of proposals related to your Total Rewards and working conditions. After we have discussed the proposals with the union, accurate information on those proposals may be shared on this website.

In the last five years, AdvanSix has invested more than $57 million in the Chesterfield plant, including projects that directly support health, safety and the environment. On average, AdvanSix invests approximately $75 million per year in base maintenance and HSE capital investments across our sites. These investments have been reflected in our good performance in these areas, and we continue to strive for excellence at all of our facilities.

We believe a candid dialogue about the challenges facing the site and our employees can lead to a win-win situation in which the site improves its cost position and all employees benefit. AdvanSix recognizes that our people are, and always will be, our most valued asset and the foundation of our success, and it’s important for all our employees to have a stake in our success.

The company’s objective is to achieve a new labor agreement that is fair and competitive in the market and equitable for our hourly workforce, while ensuring safe, stable and sustainable operations throughout the process.

The issues being addressed in this bargaining process are very important, and the outcome will affect employees and their families for the next contract term. It is important that employees have access to a place with key facts and information about the process and accurate information on the company’s proposals after discussion with the union representatives at the bargaining table.

There are many different possibilities. However, typically, one of the following occurs: 1) the parties continue to negotiate and employees continue to work under the expired collective bargaining agreement (CBA); 2) the parties agree to extend the CBA for a specified time while they continue to negotiate; 3) some form of work stoppage takes place, either as a result of action by the unions (a strike) or by the company (a lockout).

While we anticipate reaching a new labor agreement, we are taking all necessary steps to ensure the site can continue to run safely at all times, and that our commitments to customers will be met. Our contingency plan ensures safe, stable and sustainable operations of the site throughout the negotiation process and includes using fully qualified employees from other AdvanSix facilities and a contract workforce.

By sharing the full AdvanSix story with key stakeholders including customers and our own employees, we can make a big impact on our collective success. It’s a way of distinguishing ourselves from the competition and clarifying that what we produce makes us the better choice … and that means business growth, employee retention and more.

The scheduling of a strike authorization vote is a routine procedure often conducted by unions during contract negotiations. It does not mean there will be a strike. The vote provides the unions with the authorization to call a strike if they feel that is necessary.

AdvanSix’s top priority is the safe operation of this facility. In the event of a work stoppage, we would continue the safe, stable and sustainable operations of the site throughout the negotiation process by using fully qualified employees from other AdvanSix facilities and a trained and experienced contract workforce. We believe in our ability to operate with zero personal safety, process safety and environmental incidents. Every employee, including our contract workforce, has the right to exercise the STOP process to call a safety stand down at any time, as we believe having the Courage to Act, Respond and Engage (CARE) is a core behavior to driving towards our zero incident vision.

There will be a mediator assigned to the negotiation by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS). The FMCS is a government agency that provides a mediator to parties negotiating a labor contract when they request such help. The company and the union meet with the assigned mediator prior to the commencement of bargaining, and the company can call on the mediator for assistance if needed in the process, if the union concurs. Mediation must be jointly agreed upon by both parties.

The company is preparing for continued operations to ensure that we can continue to meet customer commitments regardless of what happens in negotiations. This is not an unusual step for employers to take, and it does not reflect our lack of confidence in the bargaining process. If we cannot supply our customers under all circumstances, they can seek products from competitors, which would hurt the business as well as the employees who depend on the business for jobs. Regardless of what happens between the company and the unions during contract negotiations, we all must stay focused on satisfying our customers if we hope to meet company and employee objectives for the longer term.
