Position Summary:  The Field Operator role is within the Chesterfield Plant in various operating units.   

These roles cover operating in a field role (with progression to a process control room based role).  This position is in a stable work environment which has plenty of work including the opportunity to grow your career with increasing responsibilityThe position works a 12 hour rotating shift schedule. The job requires the individual to potentially work in adverse weather conditions (cold, hot, humid, rain, snow, etc.).  This position will work with all levels of the organization to ensure the safe and profitable operation of the Chesterfield Plant.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

Operational Monitoring and Control 

  • Monitor area equipment and systems through both automated control systems and physical interaction. 

  • Adjust controls to regulate variables such as temperature, pressure, and flow rates to ensure proper operation of equipment. 

  • Coordinate with process operators to manage start-ups, shutdowns, and process adjustments. 

 

Maintenance and Troubleshooting 

  • Perform minor maintenance on area equipment to prevent breakdowns. 

  • Responsible for troubleshooting equipment and processes to ensure reliable operations. 

  • Responsible for performing lockouts and permit issuance for daily maintenance activities. 

  • Responsible for ensuring equipment is functioning properly and for entering notifications if maintenance work is needed. 

 

Documentation and Reporting 

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of area operations, including field reading sheets and shift reports. 

  • Report production data and incidents to lead and management. 

  • Assist in the preparation of operational reports and documentation for audit and inspections. 

 

Safety and Compliance 

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and standard operating procedures to ensure a safe working environment. 

  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment(PPE)as outlined in the PPE Matrix. 

  • Handle and report any safety incidents or hazardous situations promptly. 

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies. 

  • Responsible for environmental compliance including, but not limited to, sewer system flows, sample adherence, permit limits, troubleshooting. 

 

Communication and Coordination 

  • Communicate effectively with process operators, maintenance, leads, and management. 

  • Provide clear instructions and updates during shift changes to ensure seamless operations. 

  • Participate in shift handovers, providing detailed reports on area status and any outstanding issues. 

 

Emergency Response 

  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations. 

  • Follow established procedures for dealing with emergencies and initiate corrective actions as needed. 

  • Participate in emergency response drills and training. 

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Minimum high school diploma/GED 

  • Manufacturing experience OR a recent graduate with an Associate’s Degree or higher in a technical or science related field 

  • Must be willing and able to work a 12-hour rotating shift environment that includes holidays, weekends, and required overtime 

  • Proficiency with a computer, including programs such as Word and Excel 

  • Must be able to complete a background check and drug test successfully 

  • Must have strong communication skills 

  • Must be willing and able to work in a team environment   

  • Must meet minimum physical requirements needed to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 3 – 5 yrs. of chemical plant experience preferred  

  • Experience working in control room operations operating from Distributed Control Systems  

  • Ability to understand a multi-step chemical process 

  • Previous experience testing samples in a lab  

  • Previous experience operating a forklift 

  • Have a strong work ethic and adapt quickly to new processes 

  • Ability to create and maintain a safe work space based on company standards 

  • Ability to troubleshoot and take corrective action within an industrial setting 

  • Ability to communicate through multiple layers of an organization 

 

Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to lift and move objects that weigh up to 50 lbs., and exert up to 75 pounds pulling  

  • Ability to wear protective equipment for extended periods such as hard hats, goggles, gloves, ear plugs, safety glasses, hot suits, etc. 

  • Ability to work with hazardous materials 

  • Ability to work alone and in isolated areas, work around hot surfaces and high temperatures 

  • Ability to work at elevated heights – greater than 50 feet, and in confined spaces with appropriate PPE 

  • Required to work on uneven and sometimes slippery surfaces and in adverse weather conditions (cold, hot, humid, rain, snow, etc.)
